Bluecore Raises $50M As Long Beach Nuclear Plan Advances (patch.com) — Long Beach residents may soon see a homegrown nuclear startup scale up, as Bluecore Energy secures $50 million to advance its floating reactor project based at the Port of Long Beach. The company is testing a non-nuclear prototype that already powers desalination, while working with federal regulators and the Port on long-term plans to eventually send offshore-generated electricity back to Long Beach.
   

2. Woman Shot To Death On Long Beach Boulevard, No Arrests Made (patch.com) — Neighbors along Long Beach Boulevard are grappling with concern after a woman was fatally shot early Labor Day morning in the 1900 block, with no arrests yet announced. Long Beach police homicide detectives are still investigating the motive and circumstances, and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or LA Crime Stoppers.
   

3. Alaska Airlines returns to Long Beach Airport (ocregister.com) — Long Beach travelers now have another option to reach the Pacific Northwest, with Alaska Airlines restarting twice-daily nonstop flights between Long Beach Airport and Seattle after more than a decade away. The year-round Boeing 737 service, celebrated at the airport with giveaways and music, expands local connections alongside existing Southwest flights and strengthens Alaska's broader Southern California network.
   

4. Seven Beach Players Represent Long Beach State On International Stage - Long Beach State University Athletics (longbeachstate.com) — Long Beach residents can take pride in seven Long Beach State men's volleyball players who spent the summer competing on U.S. and Canadian national teams, bringing home medals and valuable experience. Their coach says these international runs, from Guatemala to Mexico and beyond, will immediately raise the level of play back in Long Beach's own training gym.
   

5. How to avoid overpaying for gas in LA (nypost.com) — Drivers in Long Beach are now paying around $5.86 a gallon on average for regular gas, with prices varying widely from station to station. A survey of Southern California pumps, including a downtown Long Beach Shell, shows locals can save several dollars per fill-up by comparing nearby stations and favoring unbranded or warehouse options when convenient.
