Floating Nuclear Reactors Could Be Coming To Long Beach Port: Report (patch.com) — Long Beach residents could one day see nuclear reactors floating on barges at their port, as officials partner with federal agencies and startup Bluecore Energy to explore small modular reactor technology. Supporters say the reactors could power terminals, ships, and charging stations with carbon-free electricity, while critics raise concerns about safety, oversight, and nuclear waste. The project faces major regulatory and legal hurdles, meaning any reactor at the Port of Long Beach would be years away.
