Traffic Accident Near CSULB Results In Pedestrian's Death

The pedestrian was alert and speaking to witnesses who provided him help, but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man died after he was struck by a car near California State University, Long Beach Thursday night according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a collision at 6:22 p.m. in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Channel Drive and found an injured person in the street.

"The pedestrian was conscious and alert and was speaking to Good Samaritans who were providing him aid," LBPD said.

The man died several hours later at a local hospital according to police.

Investigation into the crash revealed that the man was running across Pacific Coast Highway outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a car driven by a 20-year-old resident of Wilmington.

Witnesses and the driver remained on the scene to aid officers in the investigation. Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not believed to be factors in the collision according to LBPD.
