Wrong Way Crash Kills Motorcyclist Near Long Beach State
Police shut down traffic near the busy intersection at Bellflower Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway to investigate the crash.
LONG BEACH, CA — A motocyclist was killed in a traffic collision Thursday afternoon near California State University, Long Beach, police announced Friday.
Traffic near the busy intersection at 7th Street and Bellflower Boulevard slowed Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. due to a police investigation of a traffic collions that left a 49-year-old man dead after he was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle, the Long Beach Police Department said.
According to preliminary investigation results, detectives said a 60-year-old woman was traveling northbound on Bellflower Boulvard when she suddenly swerved into opposite lanes of traffic, striking the motorcyclist.

The woman was transported to a local hospital following the collision to treat her injuries while paramedics from the Department of Veteran Affairs attempted live-saving measures on the downed motorcyclist. Despite efforts made by paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist's identity was witheld pending notification of his next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.

Detectives said the investigation is ongoing, but speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence are not considered to be factors in the crash.
