PALMDALE, CA — Sixteen dogs — their fur filled with dirt and feces — were found abandoned at an Antelope Valley park, county officials said this week.

Officers from the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control responded to Pelona Vista Park in Palmdale following a call regarding several small dogs that were running loose and appeared abandoned, officials said.

Officers responded to the scene to find 16 dogs roaming in a corner of the park.

"Almost every dog had matted fur filled with dirt and poop. They smelled like it too," animal officials said in a social media post.

Animal welfare authorities captured the dogs and transported them to local county shelters.

Officials said they're hoping to find foster or permanent homes for the dogs.

The discovery came after county authorities last month removed more than 300 animals from an Antelope Valley property amid an animal cruelty investigation.

Officials asked anyone who knows where the dogs came from or who left them at the park to contact palmdale@animalcare.lacounty.gov.
