LOS ANGELES, CA — Some of the dogs rescued last month from a property in the Antelope Valley are getting a much-needed fresh start — including a bath and a haircut.

After Los Angeles County authorities removed more than 300 animals from a Lake Hughes property amid an animal cruelty investigation, many of the dogs were in need of care after living in what the county Department of Animal Care and Control said was "extremely unsanitary" conditions.

Now, volunteer groomers are helping change that.

The makeovers are helping relieve pain and reduce the risk of infection while giving the animals a chance to feel comfortable again, according to county Supervisor Kathryn Barger

Barger on Tuesday shared photos of the transformations underway, showing groomers carefully shaving away thick mats of fur and giving them a deep shampoo.
