3 Stabbed, Suspect Shot At Los Angeles Target Store

LOS ANGELES, CA —A security guard shot a suspect who stabbed three people at a Target store in Downtown Los Angeles Tuesday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The stabbing spree happened shortly before 6:30 p.m at the Target store at Figueroa and Seventh streets. The victims were believed to be customers shopping at the store at the time of the attacks, according to authorities.

"Three people were stabbed, and the person who was shot was the suspect, who is now in custody," said LAPD Officer Luis Garcia.

Authorities did not immediately know the condition of the shooter nor the victims. The Los Angeles Times reported that one victim was hospitalized in critical condition.

Details about the moments leading up to the stabbings were not immediately clear.

Target security officers are not typically armed, but many merchants or property managers at Downtown businesses employ third-party security companies.

"The public is asked to please avoid the area while the Investigation is [in] it’s preliminary stage,” LAPD tweeted.
