4. Feds seize cocaine from oil tanker bound for LA (borderreport.com) — Federal agents intercepted an oil tanker headed for the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex and seized about 227 kilograms of cocaine before it could be offloaded in Southern California. A crew member was arrested and is set to appear in downtown Los Angeles federal court, as authorities describe alleged cartel plans to retrieve the drugs off Mexico’s coast.
5. Travel industry worries after Trump administration reiterates threat to ‘sanctuary city' airports (latimes.com subscription) — Los Angeles is among the sanctuary jurisdictions that could be affected if the Trump administration follows through on a threat to pull federal customs officers from certain airports, potentially disrupting international flights. Travel industry groups and airlines are warning such a move would severely damage tourism, the broader economy, and access to global routes serving Southern California.
