Francis Ford Coppola’s epic, Vietnam-set reimagining of Joseph Conrad’s novella Heart of Darkness sends Willard (Martin Sheen) on a desperate jungle mission to “terminate with extreme prejudice” the mysterious Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando). The making of Apocalypse Now was a famously difficult but resulted in an unforgettable film full of remarkable technical achievements. The film received eight nominations, including Best Picture, Art Direction and Film Editing, and won for Vittorio Storaro’s spectacular cinematography and the immersive soundscape created by Walter Murch, Mark Berger, Richard Beggs, and Nat Boxer.
