In person: actor Park Hae-il
Renowned poet Lee Juk-yo, 70, has become a recluse, mechanically pushing through his bland days, until they are pleasantly disrupted by high school student Eun-gyo, who comes into his life, bringing fresh energy. Lee starts working on a new novel, the dullness of his life giving way to color, possibilities, even daydreams. But that color starts to dim when Seo Ji-woo, Lee’s former student/assistant, becomes involved with Eun-gyo, and jealousy moves in instead. Based on a novel of the same name by Park Beom-shin, Eungyo explores themes of youth, and the poignant notion of its loss and redemption, with Park Hae-il delivering a notable interpretation of those themes through his character’s numbness and dissociation.
