Carjacking Victim Dragged During LA Police Chase Dies

As a murder suspect drove off following a carjacking, the carjacking victim was dragged along the road by their own vehicle, the LAPD said.

LOS ANGELES, CA – A carjacking victim died Thursday after being dragged along the road by their own vehicle that was being driven by a murder suspect, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Office.

The incident began to unfold around 5 p.m. while the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotic Division detectives were conducting surveillance for a murder suspect, the department said.

Detectives watched as the murder suspect got into the passenger side of a vehicle and drove away. Officers tried to stop the vehicle a pursuit began once the vehicle fled, the department said.

As the pursuit continued, the suspect “was involved in a traffic collision” at Florence Avenue and Haas Avenue before getting out of the passenger side and carjacking another vehicle, according to the department.

As the suspect fled the scene, the carjacking victim was dragged along the road by their own vehicle, the department said. The suspect later rolled the carjacked vehicle at Florence Avenue and Prairie Avenue, where the victim was pronounced dead, the department said.

Officers instructed the suspect to exit the vehicle, but they refused. After two hours of negotiations by SWAT units on the scene, the suspect was “ultimately taken into custody without incident,” according to the department.
