LOS ANGELES, CA — If Ruby Evans was thrilled to win $2,000 playing an Instant Prize Crossword Scratcher, imagine how she felt when the store clerk scanned her ticket and explained she actually won $2,000,000.

Evans took it in stride, however. She'd won the lottery before.

Evans had just purchased her scratcher at Sweet Time Donuts in Compton and was sitting in her car scratching the ticket when she realized she had a winner. She ran back in excitedly to claim her winnings when the clerk realized she had shortchanged herself by a few zeros. Evans had won the game's top prize.

“I’ll tell you what, this is a big blessing. It’s given me a chance to pay off my bills, my mortgage, and help my daughters,” Evans told the California Lottery. “I’m having fun.”

What's she going to do with her winnings?

Keep playing the lottery, for one thing.

Evans won $100,000 playing a different Scratchers game back in 2013, and recently she won another $5,000 Scratcher at Sweet Time Donuts.

Now the other customers tease Evans.

“They say ‘Ruby, haven’t you won enough? Save some winners for all of us,'” she told the Lottery.
