In the audio recording, a woman can be heard giggling and saying, “You’re going to rip my underwear!” A man's garbled reply was obscured by police radio beeps.
The Los Angeles Timese cited an anonymous source identifying the deputy as a rookie assigned to the Downtown jail complex that includes the Men’s Central Jail. According to the Times, the encounter occurred during her break in a parking structure, and investigators are attempting to determine if the man in the recording was also a sheriff's department employee.

While police departments generally have policies prohibiting inappropriate behavior on duty and in patrol units, it's not necessarily a crime. However, it can lead to disciplinary action.
In 2004, the Corona Police Department disciplined three officers involved in what investigators dubbed an 'on-duty booty' scandal.
In 2018, a Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested by his own chief and convicted of the statutory rape of a teenage police cadet. The affair was discovered after a dramatic police chase and crash involving teen cadets, who had been stealing patrol cars and making traffic stops while posing as cops, according to investigators. Detectives quickly discovered that a 15-year-old cadet involved in the chase was having a sexual relationship with then LAPD Officer Robert Cain. The scandal forced the suspension of a popular cadet program and cast a dark shadow over the department.
More recently, a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy was caught on a hot mic having a sexual encounter inside the Universal Studios theme park near the "Psycho" Bates Motel set, TMZ reported. The encounter was reportedly interrupted when a dispatcher barked, “95 Ocean, you have an open mic, take care of the mic."
That deputy was relieved of duty, the Los Angeles Times reported.
