About Pueblo Nuevo Education and Development Group and Camino Nuevo Charter Academy
Pueblo Nuevo Education and Development Group (Pueblo Nuevo EDG) serves as the fundraising and capacity building arm for Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, a network of tuition-free, charter public schools enrolling 3,600 students from preschool through high school. Through Pueblo Nuevo EDG, Camino Nuevo receives charitable donations from foundations and individuals, which help Camino Nuevo schools provide an early education, enrichment opportunities, mental health services, scholarships, and other supports to its student body, which is 95 percent Latino and 92 percent low-income. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo schools fuse strong academics with wraparound supports that address issues of poverty like homelessness, childhood trauma, and poor health. By taking a holistic approach to educating children, Camino Nuevo has increased student achievement and graduation rates. The network also dedicates staff and resources to support their college-attending alumni. As a result, Camino Nuevo graduates earn college degrees at more than double the national rate for low-income students.
