Shooting Report Triggers University High School Lockdown

One person was detained for questioning following possible false reports of an armed suspect at the campus.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A report of a shooting at Westside's University High School Wednesday morning appears to be false. However, the school was placed on lockdown as police officers searched the campus.

The report of an active shooter was telephoned in to authorities shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Los Angeles Unified School District School Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department were still on the scene conducting a search as of 10:45 a.m. Officers found no evidence of a shooting or armed suspect at the 11800 Texas Ave campus, said LAPD Officer Warren Moore.

The lockdown remained in place until the campus was fully searched.

No arrests were reported. The investigation is continuing.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials issued a statement decrying the "unfounded reports of gunshots" fired at the campus.

One person was detained for questioning following possible false reports of an armed suspect, according to reports from the scene.

"Non-credible school hoaxes are a serious offense that Los Angeles Unified takes seriously," according to the district. "Threats disrupt the educational environment, increase stress levels and interfere with law enforcement's ability to protect schools from real dangers. It also poses a serious risk to our community, draining resources and occupying the time of critical first responders."
