Fatal Shooting Shuts Down Pico-Union Neighborhood

Los Angeles police officers were searching for one or two suspects involved in the slaying of a man at Union Avenue and Venice Boulevard.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police are looking for one or two suspects who shot a man to death in the Pico-Union area Friday afternoon.

The area around Union Avenue and Venice Boulevard was shut down while authorities initially searched for two men believed to be involved in the shooting. Later police released a description of a single shooter.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the area near Toberman Park at about 3:30 p.m. on reports of gunfire. They found a man shot to death in the street.

Authorities did immediately release a motive for the slaying.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The victim was a Black man approximately 40 years old, said LAPD Officer Tony Im. The suspect, a man approximately 25 to 30 years-old, walked up to the victim and fired an unknown number of rounds before fleeing on foot, said Im.
