Fire Engulfs 118-Year-Old Downtown Los Angeles Church
The cause of the fire at the historic Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles is under investigation.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Firefighters Friday evening were battling a blaze at a century-old church in downtown Los Angeles.
The fire was reported just after 7:45 p.m. at the two-story Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church at 1376 E. 18th St., near the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

All Metro Los Angeles A Line train service was shut down along Washington Boulevard between Central Avenue and Hooper Avenue until firefighters finished operations in the area.

LAFD firefighters were battling the fire as of about 8:45 p.m. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The church, which was built in 1903, was vacant at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
