Former LAPD Sheriff Found After Wandering Away From Home: Reports

LOS ANGELES, CA — Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, 82, has been found safe after he went missing from his San Marino home Sunday afternoon, authorities told multiple outlets.

Baca, who has Alzheimer's disease, was found eight hours after he apparently wandered away from his San Marino home, according to authorities.

An extensive search was launched, and San Marino Police Department Chief John Incontro told reporters at about 1 a.m. Monday that Baca was found in an El Monte restaurant and identified with the help of a medical bracelet he wears.

He was uninjured, "seemed to be in good spirits," and was reunited with his family, authorities said.

Baca, who served as sheriff from 1998 to 2014, served three years in prison after being convicted in 2017 of overseeing a scheme to obstruct a federal investigation into corruption and civil rights abuses at county jail facilities.

He served his prison time from Feb. 2020 to Jan. 2022.
