Hansen Dam Brush Fire Knocked Down But Remains Under Investigation

LOS ANGELES, CA — A pair of brush fires near the Hansen Dam Recreation Area were quickly doused Wednesday afternoon, but they remain under investigation.

The Hansen Dam brush fires were among a handful of vegetation fires to break out in Los Angeles County Wednesday afternoon amid extreme heat and low humidity. Temperatures in the Hansen Dam area reached 106 degrees while firefighters battled the flames.

Facing searing heat and low humidity, Los Angeles Fire Department crews worked quickly to stop the spread of the flame when the blazes broke out shortly after 1 p.m. near the 11700 block of West Foothill Boulevard. With the help of air and ground crews, the flames were extinguished in a little more than an hour.

LAFD crews managed to contain the fire shortly after2 p.m., and the department reported ground units were treating two separate one-acre brush fires at the scene as one fire.

Firefighters were set to remain on the scene for at least two hours to douse remaining hot spots.

No structure were threatened, and no injuries were immediately reported, according to the LAFD. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
