Ikea To Open New 'City-Center' Format Store In LA County This Year
The furniture giant plans to open four new California stores this year.
CULVER CITY, CA — Ikea plans to open four new stores in California this year, including the first-ever "city-center" format store in Culver City.
The new LA County store will open this spring inside the old Helms Bakery complex in Culver City. It will occupy a 40,000-square-foot space formerly used by furniture retailer HD Buttercup, which went out of business last year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“We’re bringing the IKEA experience closer to where people live, work, socialize, and shop—just in a smaller footprint,” spokesperson Briana Lehman said in a statement.

The store will have nearly 4,000 products on display, with about 3,000 available for immediate takeaway. Like full-size Ikea stores, this one will also feature room displays, KTLA reported.
It will also include a new food court concept dubbed "Swedish Bite," featuring snacks, sandwiches, drinks and favorites from the Swedish Market.

The city-center store is smaller than typical Ikea stores like the one in Burbank, but larger than the tiny “plan and order point" locations such as the one in Arcadia.
Ikea is planning on opening three more plan-and-order locations in California this year:
- Pleasanton — summer
- South San Diego — summer
- Escondido — spring
Those stores will offer consultation and ordering services but do not stock any items. Customers will be able to order items for delivery or pickup.
