Knife-Wielding Man Shot By Deputies After Attempted Suicide Call In SGV: LASD

The man was shot by deputies Wednesday afternoon, according to the LASD.

AZUSA, CA — A man was in critical condition after being shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Azusa Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Deputies responded at around 3:20 p.m. to the area of North Orangecrest Avenue and East Orkney Street following a report of an attempted suicide involving a man armed with a knife, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived, they encountered the suspect as he exited a home through a side gate, officials said.

Authorities said the man ignored commands from deputies and then charged toward one of them near a patrol vehicle.

At least one deputy opened fire, striking the suspect, sheriff’s officials said.

The man was transported to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel, where he remained in critical condition Thursday.

Investigators recovered a knife with an approximately 3-inch blade at the scene.

No deputies were injured during the incident.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
