LAPD Steps Up Security Around Jewish Community For High Holy Days

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department is increasing patrols and police visibility around Jewish houses of worship, schools and cultural centers as the Jewish High Holy Days begin.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown Friday and ends Sunday night. The holiday begins the 10-day period of reflection and repentance that culminates with Yom Kippur, which begins at sundown Sunday, Sept. 20, and ends the following night.

The LAPD said it remains in close contact with community leaders and security partners as people gather for religious observances.

Police also urged the public to remain alert and immediately report suspicious activity or information about potential threats.

"The LAPD is committed to protecting every Angeleno and ensuring a safe and meaningful High Holy Days," the department said.
