LAUSD Students Get Free Admission To Zoo, NHMLAC Ahead Of 3-Day Strike
Students can get into the LA Zoo, La Brea Tar Pits and the Natural History Museum in the event that schools shut down during strikes.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Zoo and Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County will give Los Angeles Unified School District students free entry during an anticipated three-day strike, officials for both entities announced Monday.
Students grades K-12 currently enrolled in a LAUSD school will be able to get into the zoo, the Natural History Museum of LA County and the La Brea Tar Pits starting March 21 to 23. Chaperones get in free at the museum locations, and will only be charged a $5 fee to get into the zoo, officials said.
Both entities are prepared to offer a variety of educational activities for students to participate in while schools are closed.

At the Museums, all students will have access to free programming along with grade-appropriate, self-guided activities and even lesson plans for pick-up onsite. Educational resources are also available online year-round for students, officials said.
For K-5 students at the LA Zoo, staff are offering full days of adventure with Community Safari Days for $50 per day. The safari day will start at 9 a.m. and go until 4 p.m. where students will learn about animals and nature through various activities during the day.

Officials asked that students come with a backpack to carry lunch and two snacks, a water bottle, comfortable walking shoes and anything they may need in the event of rain. To register for Community Safari Days visit the zoo's website.
Free Admission tickets for all locations will only be available onsite and require proof of enrollment which can include a student ID, report card or a school newsletter. The offer will only be available while schools are impacted by the closures and is not available online.
