LTC targets congestion pricing in next Regional Mobility Dialogue
Session will address the effects of tolling on mobility in the Inland Empire

The Leonard Transportation Center at Cal State San Bernardino is presenting the second in a series of dialogues on topics relevant to the future of transportation in the Inland Empire. The series is open to the public and sponsored by HNTB Corporation, an infrastructure solutions firm. The second program will take place on March 20, 2018, at CSUSB, starting at 7:30 a.m. in the Santo Manuel Student Union, room 215/216.
In this session, “Can Congestion Pricing Improve Mobility?”, attendees will hear from congestion pricing experts on both sides of the issue including:
- Kome Ajise, Southern California Association of Governments
- Mayor Rhodes “Dusty” Rigsby, City of Loma Linda and San Bernardino County Transportation Authority member
- Baruch Feigenbaum, Reason Foundation
Following the presentation, attendees will engage in a discussion to share concerns and ideas with transportation professionals, policy makers and each other. Transportation experts from HNTB will facilitate this discussion on the use of tolling as a congestion relief and transportation funding solution. With more than 70 years of experience in the toll industry and over 400 toll professionals nationally, HNTB brings a wealth of knowledge and history to this dialogue.

Some of the questions the dialogue seeks to answer are:
- What is congestion pricing and how does it work?
- Where has congestion pricing been successful? Have there been problems and issues?
- What are the potential benefits and challenges with congestion pricing?
- Is congestion pricing unfair?
- What is being planned for the Inland Empire and Southern California region?
- How can congestion pricing impact communities and commuters?
“We are eager to share our experience in the tolling industry and provide information and data on historical and current trends,” said Greg Hulsizer, HNTB toll market practice leader and vice president. “For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of tolling, this dialogue is an opportunity to learn about how it works and what its potential benefits may include for this region.”

As part of CSUSB, the Leonard Transportation Center is interested in bringing people together to provide the facts, discuss the major issues, and work to resolve them. The center is committed to the notion that finding solutions to the mobility challenges in Southern California is much more likely when people from different walks of life are engaged in the conversations. Kimberly Collins, LTC executive director, said, “We invite anyone interested in being part of the conversation and solution to join us for this innovative and engaging series.”
The cost for the series is $30 per session. Registration fees cover a continental breakfast, parking on campus and conference materials. Attendance is limited to the first 50 registrants, so early registration is recommended. To register, click here.
The third dialogue in the series is titled “Mobility as a Service, Flying Cars, Hyperloop, Drone delivery – Can Technology Save Us?” and is scheduled for May 22, 2018. More information and registration details are available here.
