Man Arrested In Deadly Minivan Shooting: Pasadena Police

The man is suspected of opening fire on a minivan and killing a passenger, police said.

PASADENA, CA — A 28-year-old man suspected of firing 13 rounds at a minivan and killing a passenger in Pasadena last week has been arrested, police said on Monday.

The shooting occurred at around 7 p.m. Wednesday on Ashtabula Street, just north of the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Garfield Avenue, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

Several men were standing near the street when a minivan stopped near them. After a brief interaction, one of the men on the street pulled out a handgun and fired 13 rounds at the minivan, striking a man in the passenger seat, according to police.

Everyone involved fled the scene. Someone dropped the victim off at a hospital, police said.

The victim, 42-year-old Jose Garcia, died at a local hospital, police said.

On Thursday, police located suspect Everett Johnson, 28, and took him into custody. Authorities recovered a handgun during the arrest, police said.

Johnson was booked on suspicion of murder, assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He's being held on $3 million bail, police said.
