Mass Shooting Hoax At Los Angeles High School Prompts Shutdown
An increase in bomb threats and school shooting hoaxes has been draining resources and causing stress among students and staff.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A day after a hoax bomb threat shut down Santa Monica High School, a hoax threat caused a scare at Los Angeles High School Friday.
Police were sent to the campus in the 4600 block of West Olympic Boulevard just after noon to respond to a report of a shooting involving several victims. After conducting a sweep of the campus, authorities determined the call was a hoax.
"The reported shooting incident in the 4600 block of West Olympic Boulevard at Los Angeles High School has been thoroughly investigated by LAPD and L.A. Unified School Police and appears to be a hoax," the Los Angeles Police department said in a statement.

On Thursday, a bomb threat at Santa Monica High School also turned out to be a hoax. After false reports of a mass shooting at a campus in Hollywood earlier this school year, the Los Angeles Unified School District issued a statement outlining the impact of such hoaxes.

"Non-credible school hoaxes are a serious offense that Los Angeles Unified takes seriously. Threats disrupt the educational environment, increase stress levels, and interfere with law enforcement's ability to protect schools from real dangers. It also poses a serious risk to our community, draining resources and occupying the time of critical first responders."
