Meet An “Amazing” Who Proves The Great Benefit Of Running
Juanita Gonzales, at 82, had no idea, when she started running at 54 years old, how profoundly it would impact her life.

Juanita Gonzales, at 82, had no idea, when she started running at 54 years old, how profoundly it would impact her life. Oh, sure, Juanita loved running competitively (Gold Medals in 72 Road Races), but it was after she suffered a bad fall in 2012 that Juanita found out just how much impact running had in her life.
The consequences of that fall were traumatic. In addition to a concussion, Juanita lost all ability to write, speak and walk normally, and the chances of a full recovery were dim. Yet Juanita, with the help and support of her daughter, did what it took to get herself back to herself. A mere 3 years later, she took 2nd place in the 2015 National Senior Games Road Race.
Juanita credits running with giving her the physical health and energy that supported her astonishing recovery including her Bronze Medal at the 2019 5K Road Race in Albuquerque. What’s next? Hopefully taking the Gold at the 2022 National Senior Games.
