SANTA MONICA, CA — Jennifer Lopez left her mark on this year's MTV Movie & TV Awards as the global superstar gave an emotional speech about how her drive to succeed came from a place of wanting to prove her haters wrong.

Accepting the Generation Award — an honor given to stars who are famous for a diverse range of contributions — Lopez exclaimed, “I want to thank the people who gave me joy and the ones who broke my heart — the ones who were true and the ones who lied to me.” The singer and actress went on to thank those who gave her a chance, saying “You’re only as good as the people who you work with. But if you’re lucky, they make you better. I’ve been very lucky in that regard.”

The ceremony, which took place Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, was hosted live by Vanessa Hudgens after the awards were prerecorded the last few years. In addition to Lopez and Hudgens, stars such as Olivia Rodrigo, Sydney Sweeney and Jack Black were also there.
