Ultimate Oscars Snub: Hollywood's Biggest Night Is Leaving Hollywood
The Academy Awards ceremony, long held in Hollywood, will soon be hosted at a new location.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Oscars are saying goodbye to Hollywood.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday announced the Academy Awards will relocate to the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live beginning with the 2029 ceremony.
The Oscars will take place at the downtown Los Angeles venue through at least 2039, based on the Academy's deal with theater owner AEG.

As part of the agreement, AEG will make improvements to the theater "including upgrades to its stage, sound and lighting systems, lobbies, backstage facilities and additional production-critical areas."
The Peacock Theater is next to the Crypto.com Arena, home to the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings. The theater has hosted the Emmy Awards nearly every year since 2008 and, in recent years, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

The theater's capacity of about 7,000 is about twice that of the Dolby. And its plaza is bigger and more open-air than the Dolby's Ovation Hollywood complex, which has more of an enclosed shopping mall feeling. Like Hollywood, L.A. Live also has multiple hotels, essential to the logistics of the Oscars.
"We are thrilled to partner with a global powerhouse like AEG. Their track record for building and operating technologically sophisticated live performance venues is unrivaled," Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor said in a joine statement. "For the 101st Oscars and beyond, the Academy looks forward to closely collaborating with AEG to make L.A. Live the perfect backdrop for our global celebration of cinema, both for our live in-theater audience and for film fans around the world."
The Oscars has been held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard almost every year since 2002.
In 2021, amid the pandemic, a scaled-down version of the ceremony was staged at LA's Union Station.
Before its move to the Dolby Theatre, the Oscars alternated between Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Shrine Auditorium for over a decade.
The 2029 relocation to The Peacock Theater coincides with the Oscars being taken off TV — that year, the ceremony will be telecast on YouTube instead of its longtime home of ABC.
