Pam Bondi Takes Aim At 'Violent, Dangerous People' In Idyllic LA County City, Baffling Locals
Trump's attorney general sounded off about safety in one of Los Angeles County's most desirable areas.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi took aim at Culver City during a congressional hearing on Wednesday, implying that the Los Angeles County community is plagued with violence and crime.
The comment drew jokes and baffled reactions from locals, who pondered why Bondi would take such sharp aim at a city considered one of the county's most desirable locales.
Bondi's Culver City takedown came during a heated exchange at a congressional subcommittee hearing between the attorney general and Democratic Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents the community. The congresswoman was berating Bondi for what she said was the Trump administration's dishonesty regarding the threat of right-wing extremism. She said Bondi's Department of Justice had taken down reports highlighting such crime.

"There are violent, dangerous people out here with real threats," Kamlager-Dove said.
Bondi interrupted — "there are, in your district," she said.

After Kamlager-Dove finished asking questions of Bondi, the attorney general requested a moment to offer a reply before moving on to the next representative's questions.
"Her district includes Culver City!," Bondi exclaimed. "And she's not talking about any crime in her district, nothing about helping crime in her district. She's not even worth getting into the details."
Culver City Mayor Freddy Puza told SFGATE that Bondi's statement caught him by surprise.
"Let’s be clear about the facts: crime in Culver City declined 9.7% in 2024 and is down another 6.1% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024," Puza wrote in a social media post. "The facts simply do not support the Attorney General’s narrative from today’s Congressional hearing. We welcome the correction from the federal Department of Justice, but we won’t hold our breath."
Others expressed bewilderment at Bondi's comments. While right-wing leaders frequently take aim at the Los Angeles area as a whole, Culver City rarely comes up in national discussions. Locally, it's often known for its vibrant restaurant scene, walkable downtown and quiet, tree-lined streets.
It's home to the West Coast headquarters of NPR, the studio lots of Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures, and a major Apple office.
"Culver City is known for parks, studio lots, and breakfast burritos—not crime," Kamlager-Dove wrote on X after the hearing. "Pam Bondi should visit sometime."
Bondi did not name-check any other parts of Kamlager-Dove's 37th Congressional District, which includes Century City, Ladera Heights and large parts of South Los Angeles.
