📰 News we're reading

1. Earthquake Simulator Will Bring Magnitude 7.0 Shaking To LA (patch.com) — Los Angeles residents will get a vivid preview of major earthquake shaking when a state-run simulator capable of mimicking a magnitude 7.0 quake visits UCLA's Wilson Plaza next Wednesday morning. The stop is part of the Great California ShakeOut Tour, giving Angelenos a chance to test early-warning tools, learn safety steps like drop-cover-hold on, and sign up for the statewide drill on October 15.

2. LAFD Air Drop Helps Stop Elysian Park Brush Fire (patch.com) — Early-morning crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly contained a small brush fire near Angels Point in Elysian Park, using an air water drop and ground hand lines. The blaze scorched only a 25-by-25-foot area, caused no injuries, and remains under investigation as firefighters completed mop-up and containment work.

3. When Eating Hurts: LA Groceries Take a Bigger Bite From Lower Incomes (parriva.com) — Families in Los Angeles are seeing groceries take a growing bite out of their paychecks, even though the city ranks only mid-pack nationally for grocery burden. New data show local food prices up over the past year, and surveys of working-class Latino adults highlight how many are buying less, switching to cheaper items, or cutting other essentials just to keep food on the table.

4. Breaking: Aliso Fire reported in Los Angeles County on Oct. 7 (sacbee.com) — A new wildfire named the Aliso Fire was discovered Wednesday evening on federal land in Los Angeles County, with officials still determining its cause and any containment progress. Residents should stay alert for updates from fire authorities as conditions can change quickly, especially with limited information currently available about the fire's behavior and potential threats to nearby communities.
