Plane Crash-Lands Onto LA County Soccer Field, 2 Critically Injured

The pilot had to be freed from the wreckage. It was the second time in a week that a plane crashed in a busy Los Angeles County community.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A small plane has crashed onto a soccer field in Wilmington Monday, injuring two people.

Both of the injured were onboard the small plane that crash-landed on the field at 401 West Westmont Drive shortly before 1 p.m. according to Margaret Stewart, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman.

"The pilot was still in the plane upon LAFD arrival and extricated," Stewart said.

Both patients were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

There was no fire, stemming from the crash and no one on the ground appeared to be hurt.

A small airplane crash-landed in a residential neighborhood near the Compton Airport Wednesday morning.

The plane struck a parked vehicle and spilled fuel into the roadway, but there were no major injuries in that incident.
