Rain Showers, Thunderstorms For Parts Of LA County Through Monday

Inland areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties may be vulnerable to flash flooding and burn area debris flows through Sunday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Monsoon weather returns to Southern California this weekend, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected across the region through Monday.

Los Angeles County residents can expect an abundance of monsoon moisture starting Sunday, along with a 30 to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms through inland Los Angeles cities, the National Weather Service reported.

Inland Los Angeles residents can expect warm temperatures with 85 degree weather forecasted through Monday, according to Accuweather.

On the coast and in Los Angeles valleys, residents can expect a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain, along with lower temperatures in the mid-'70s through Monday, according to Accuweather.

Heavy showers will be possible through Monday, with a risk of flash flooding and debris flows in the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley.

The National Weather Service also issued a beach hazards statement that will remain in place for Los Angeles County beaches and the Malibu Coast until Wednesday afternoon.

According to the service, coastal residents can expect an elevated surf of three to six feet from Sunday night through Wednesday.

"The threat of lightning may prompt beach closures," The service reported. "There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore."
