Reported Shooting At Culver City Mall Was A 'Swatting' Incident: Police

Authorities responded to a report of a shooting at Westfield Culver City Monday morning.

CULVER CITY, CA — A report of a shooting at the Westfield Culver City mall on Monday morning turned out to be a so-called "swatting" hoax, according to police.

Just before 11 a.m., someone called the Culver City Police Department's non-emergency number to report that a shooting had occurred at the mall, according to the department.

"Officers responded immediately and conducted a comprehensive search of the property to ensure the safety of all patrons, employees, and visitors," police said.

Officers were unable to locate any suspect, nor were there any people suffering from gunshot wounds. There were no additional calls regarding a shooting incident, police said.

"At this time, no credible threat to the public has been identified. Preliminary information indicates the call was likely a hoax, commonly referred to as 'swatting,'" police said.
