Shooter Shuts Down Westlake Neighborhood; School Locked Down
Residents are advised to avoid the area around Hoover Street Elementary School and James M. Wood Boulevard as they search for a shooter.
WESTLAKE, CA — A 40-year-old woman who allegedly brandished a firearm at firefighters who responded to a medical call and fired several shots into the air before barricading herself inside a home was arrested Tuesday.
No injuries were reported, although the woman was taken to a hospital after she was arrested late Tuesday afternoon.
Police set up a perimeter along a stretch of James M. Wood Boulevard while searching for the shooter Tuesday afternoon, and Hoover Street Elementary School students were sheltering in place. The area around the 2600 block of James M. Wood Boulevard remained closed well into the afternoon, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Warren Moore.

A Los Angeles Fire Department crew was responding to a medical call in the area when they heard shots fired, according to authorities. A woman had brandished a Glock handgun before firing into the air, according to Moore.
Some residents in the area were evacuated amid the standoff.
