🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 43.2% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 27.3% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 2.3% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 27.3% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Monday morning at 1:45 a.m., there was a street takeover at the intersection of San Pedro Street and Manchester Avenue in the Florence neighborhood. A large group of spectators was on hand to observe the event. As soon as the Los Angeles Police Department arrived, drivers and onlookers scattered. “It was unclear if police made any arrests or wrote any citations as a result of the incident.” (KTLA)

2) The Los Angeles Fire Department announced on Friday that it “provides free ready-to-fill sandbags” as well as free sand. If you think this week’s rain could cause flooding on or near your property, now is the time to take the LAFD up on its offer. Each household may claim up to 25 free sandbags. Please note that there is no free sand at the Council District 14 office, Fire Station 61, and Fire Station 13. (LAFD)

3) We learned on Monday that the Los Angeles City Council approved the construction of a medical center “at the intersection of San Vicente and Wilshire” in Beverly Hills. Construction may begin next year and be completed in 2024. “Despite a large number of medical offices in the area, Stockdale’s development will be the first major outpatient medical office building built in the area in more than 20 years.” It’s interesting to note that this building will be close to the Purple Line Extension. (L.A. Business Journal)

4) The Metropolitan Transit Authority offers FREE rides on all “Los Angeles County Metro buses, trains and more to encourage people to get out and vote Tuesday.” The offer starts at midnight and runs until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. If you are a Metro Bike Share user, you get a 30-minute free ride and will then be charged $1.75 for each 30-minute increment thereafter; enter code 110822. For Metro Micro users, the code is Vote2022. (KTLA)

5) British Airways is bringing the Airbus A380 back to Los Angeles next winter. We learned on Monday that the vessel won’t be used in the summer for the London Heathrow to Los Angeles route. However, scheduling for the winter shows that it will come back as a seasonal conveyance. (British Airways)
