LOS ANGELES, CA — A United Airlines passenger jet was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, where passengers evacuated the plane Monday amid reports of an engine fire.
United flight #2127 was bound for New Jersey, but had to turn back not long after takeoff due to a mechanical issue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which was called to be ready to render aid if needed following the landing.
The incident triggered a ground stop at LAX issued by the FAA until at least 12:30 p.m.

"LAFD crews have confirmed United flight #2127 has landed safely and is clear of all passengers and crew members following reported engine problems," the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed shortly after 11 a.m.. "No patients requiring hospital transport have been identified at this time."
The plane took off at about 10:15 a.m. and was bound for Newark Liberty International Airport until the mechanical problem emerged. It returned to LAX less than an hour after takeoff.

Footage from the scene showed passengers and crew on the tarmac after the plane landed.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the mechanical issue.
