Video Shows Teens Deliberately Mow Down Retired Bell Chief, Police Say
Two teens have been arrested and are expected to be charged as adults with murder, authorities said.

LAS VEGAS — Two teens are expected to be charged with murder after they intentionally and fatally struck a retired Los Angeles area police chief with a vehicle last month in Las Vegas, according to law enforcement.
Andreas Probst, 64, was taking an early morning bike ride around 6 a.m. Aug. 14 at Tenaya Way and Centennial Parkway when he was struck in a hit-and-run and later pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
Probst worked in law enforcement for over 35 years, his daughter said at a press conference Tuesday streamed on Facebook. KTLA reported he is a retired police chief of Bell in Los Angeles County.

The 17-year-old driver was booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall early in the investigation, but it wasn’t until Tuesday that the passenger was arrested, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said at the press conference that he expected the teens’ cases to be transferred to the adult system for prosecution.
Video of the incident circulating online shows the vehicle striking Probst from behind, causing him to roll over the dashboard, after which the teens leave him lying on the side of the road.

The teens were involved in another bicycle hit-and-run before they struck Probst, and they intentionally side-swiped a sedan, according to police, who said the victims in those two incidents suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Deputy Chief Nick Farese during the press conference referred to Probst’s killing as “a cowardly act” that left him “personally appalled.”
“Andy’s life was robbed by two individuals who did not believe that lives of others matter,” Probst’s daughter, Taylor Probst, said at the press conference, describing her father as “a man of honor and integrity” who was involved with Little League and Girl Scouts.
