Watch: Man Airlifted After Jumping Into Raging Rapids To Save Dog
The dramatic air rescue of a man who risked his life to save his dog in the Pacoima Wash Monday was captured on video.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man jumped into the raging Pacoima Wash in the Sylmar area Monday to try to save his dog, but the current proved too strong. He was saved in a dramatic air rescue by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In the end, the dog didn't need saving.
Bystanders reported seeing the man jump into the water at about 2:45 p.m. Monday while trying to rescue his dog, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The raging water quickly carried the man away, and he struggled to stay above the water.
"Crews responded to several bridges and access points down river and located the canine, who had managed to swim safely to the edge and escape the rapids," Prange said.

"LAFD Air Ops lowered a rescuer into the water, who was able to grab the patient, who was still conscious," added Prange. "They were hoisted into the aircraft, and transported to the local hospital by air."
The man was hospitalized in unknown condition. His dog was taken to a local shelter for temporary care for minor injuries.
