Witnesses Chase Down Hit-And-Water Driver In Double Fatal

Authorities identified two people killed when a speeding BMW slammed into a UPS truck and several other vehicles.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Witnesses chased down a hit-and-run driver in a high-speed crash that killed two people Thursday. Authorities on Friday identified the victims.

Oscar Santos Farela, 26, and Luzelena Soria-Rosales, 18, both died at the screen of the crash in Jefferson Park , according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner's office.

The crash involving a black BMW occurred Thursday morning just before noon at West 29th Street and Arlington Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"A black BMW reportedly ran a red light at 29th Street while traveling southbound on Arlington Avenue and collided with several parked vehicles," the LAPD said in a written statement.

The driver was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the LAPD

"You can't drive this fast in the city, under the influence, running red lights," Detective Ryan Moreno told CBS News.

One person got out of the BMW and fled several blocks to the area of Third Avenue and Jeffeerson Boulevard where he was taken into custody after being chased down by witnesses and held until officers arrived, according to police.

Authorities told reporters at the scene that one of the victims was a woman who was ejected onto the street when the BMW, which was traveling at speeds approaching 100 mph, struck a UPS truck and other vehicles.
