Family of Boy Injured in Grisly Roller Coaster Accident Sues Knott's Berry Farm

The parents of a 10-year-old Utah boy injured on a roller coaster ride at Knott's Berry Farm filed a negligence lawsuit today in Orange County Superior Court against the Buena Park amusement park.

Carson Burrei got his left leg and foot stuck between the Coast Rider roller coaster cart and the deck on June 15, 2014, the lawsuit alleges. The 10- year-old's skin was ripped off of his foot and he broke his leg, according to the complaint.

The boy depended on a wheelchair for three months and sustained "nerve damage, growth plate injuries, limited sensation on the top of his left foot, pain in his left foot and limited mobility of his left foot despite surgeries," the lawsuit alleges.

A statement issued by Knott's Berry Farm said the amusement park "can't comment on legal matters, and our thoughts are with Carson for a full and speedy recovery. The safety of our guests and employees remains Knott's top priority."

The boy's family, who reside in St. George, Utah, say they witnessed the accident.

When the ride appeared to completely stop, the youngster tried to get out, but then the roller coaster moved forward, causing his foot to get wedged between the car and the platform, according to the suit.

The family's attorneys claim the ride has a "dangerous history," including another incident a couple of months before Carson's mishap.
