405 Jumper Snarls Rush Hour Traffic in Orange County
A man jumped to his death onto the 405 Freeway from an overpass, backing up rush hour for hours.

WESTMINSTER, CA
UPDATED AT 11:32 P.M.: WESTMINSTER, CA - A man was struck by a vehicle and killed on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Westminster today.
The man is believed to have jumped about 6:05 p.m. from an overpass onto the northbound side of the freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the dispatcher said, adding that no one else was injured in the incident.
The man was believed to be between the age of 25 to 30, Westminster Police Department Sgt. Alan Iwashita said. A coroner's investigation was pending, Iwashita added.

All lanes of the freeway were re-opened after authorities cleared the scene, the dispatcher said.
ORIGINAL POST: A fatality on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Westminster triggered a SigAlert during the Friday rush hour
The SigAlert was called at 6:15 p.m. and lasted for more than three hours. The incident, just north of the Goldenwest Street off-ramp, shut down all lanes of the freeway for a time. By 9:25 p.m., only the fast lane and carpool lane remained closed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The SigAlert backed up traffic for miles affecting much of Orange County. A CHP dispatcher was unable to release additional details about the fatality at this time.
