I Found A Spider In My Dining Room And Now I Can’t Go In There

It's the time of year when more creepy crawlers come inside. When spiders move into your house, what do you do?

While the cooler temperatures haven’t quite set in here in California, they are on their way. Thanksgiving is just a couple of week away and then we’re into the holiday season. People will be starting to bundle up to stay warm. However, critters, and more importantly, bugs, don’t have the luxury of putting on a coat or a scarf. So, they often look for warm places they can sneak into and hopefully not be noticed.

Unfortunately, I noticed. It was just after dinner last night. I was cleaning up, doing the dishes and whatnot. When I went to put away a serving dish in my dining room, I spotted something in the corner of my eye that was out of place. It was a dark spot on my white walls in the corner of the room. I nearly dropped the dish because I knew what is was.

It was a spider -- a big, nasty one. It was one of the ones that’s probably about the size of the palm of my hand. I’m sure my mind was over exaggerating, but I swear it looked like one of the giant ones that you only see in pictures.I quickly put down the dish and ran out of the room. A full day later, I still haven’t gone back in there.

So now I have a new roommate. One that doesn’t help with the bills and also takes up way too much space. I think he needs to be evicted.

But how do I go about it? The most obvious way would be to use a shoe. Apparently that’s the go-to way for most people, and I guess I can understand why. But for me, that’s getting too up close and personal. What if it skitters away on me? What if it leaps into the air? What if it jumps and bites me? Peter Parker may have lucked out with his spider bite, but I doubt I would have the same fate.

Here are my options: 1. Muster up enough courage to go in and kill the thing. 2. Hire someone else to do it. Seriously -- I’ll pay you money for it. 3. Accept I have a new roommate and learn to respect our differences and our space.

I think it’ll end up being option 2 or 3. I guess there’s always a fourth option as well -- I move out.
