"She ran to get the fire extinguisher and thought that Rusty was with her — but she couldn't see anything," Cassandra told Patch. Tracie was unable to get control of the flames with the fire extinguisher and was soon overpowered by the growing smoke and strengthening flames that quickly spread across her home.

She was forced to run outside, calling for her dogs in a panic as firefighters rushed to the scene, dousing the flames before they spread to any neighboring homes.

Rusty and Pepper died as a result of the fire. Tracie's home was also burnt to the ground.

"She lost everything that night, including her precious babies," Cassandra said. "Her birthday is next week and she isn't in the best health. Now she has to deal with this."

Tracie was hospitalized that night after being treated by Orange County firefighter-paramedics. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Cassandra created a GoFundMe page for her mother in order to help with rebuilding after the devastating night.

"My mom does everything in her power to help those around her, and now she needs our help," Cassandra wrote on GoFundMe. "We are asking for help to rebuild and get her new housing."

Orange County residents can help support Tracie by donating to her GoFundMe page.
