Orange County Employment Rate Down Slightly

Orange County rate is still below the state and national average.

The seasonally unemployment rate for Oranged County dropped to 4.2 percent in November, down slightly from the previous month, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.

The employment rate for October was 4.3 percent. The 4.2 percent rate was 1 percentage point below the 5.2 percent rate from November 2014.

The seasonally adjusted numbers were not available for Orange County.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 5.7 percent in November, down from 5.8 percent in October and below the 7.2 percent rate in November 2014. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5 percent in November, 5 percent in October and 5.8 percent a year ago.

According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Orange County by 11,600 jobs between October and November. The job gains were double the state total, according to the EDD, thought much of it could be temporary. Seasonal retail hirings accounted for 6,100 of those jobs.
