Rape Suspect Worked as Caretaker in Cypress, Officials Fear More Victims

Jose Reyes Calderon is charged with raping a disabled woman in a long-term healthcare facility.

A 56-year-old man was charged today with raping a disabled woman in a long-term healthcare facility in La Palma, a prosecutor said.

Jose Reyes Calderon was charged with rape of an incompetent person, lewd acts with a dependant adult by a caretaker and sexual battery on an institutionalized victim, according to Deputy District Attorney Cindy Nichols.

Calderon, who worked as a caretaker, allegedly raped a patient on Friday night, Nichols said.

Investigators are concerned there may be other victims because Calderon worked at another healthcare facility in Cypress, Nichols said.

Calderon’s arraignment today was rescheduled for Nov. 21 and his bail was set at $500,000, Nichols said.

Calderon faces up to eight years in prison if convicted, Nichols said.
