Alleged Stalker From Georgia Was Intruder Shot In Los Altos Hills Home [UPDATE]

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – A man injured in a shooting in a Los Altos home Friday was allegedly a stalker who forced his way inside and opened fire before he was shot in return by one of the occupants, a Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman said this morning.

The man, 43-year-old William Brady III of Georgia, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting, which was reported just after 11 a.m. Friday at a home on Oak Knoll Circle, sheriff's
Sgt. Richard Glennon said.

A woman in the home called 911 to report that Brady, who was stalking her, had unexpectedly appeared at her home, where he quickly forced his way in and began to shoot, Glennon said.

Arriving deputies were advised that the incident was an active shooter situation and set up a perimeter around the home, Glennon said.

Dispatchers also spoke with a male in the home who said he had exchanged gunfire with Brady and the suspect may have left the residence, according to Glennon.

The sheriff's Emergency Response Team, similar to a SWAT unit, was called to the scene and found Brady with gunshot wounds outside the home, Glennon said.

He was transported to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and is continuing to recover as of this morning, Glennon said.

Deputies found a firearm at the scene and believe the weapon is associated with Brady, according to Glennon.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other alleged crimes, Glennon said.

The victims in the home followed deputies' orders to leave the building and were interviewed as part of the investigation, according to Glennon.

Emergency protective restraining orders were issued to all the victims who weren't injured in the shooting, Glennon said.

Residents in the area were told to shelter in place for about two and a half hours during the investigation, according to Glennon.
