The Tapestry is centered around the often overlooked truth that American jazz is a folk music tradition passed down aurally from one generation to the next. Contrary to popular belief, it is not an elitist art form reserved for the upper class to wine and dine to. Jazz embodies history, cultural integrity, spirituality, and multigenerational connection. Like its musical relatives, gospel and the blues, it is music of the people, and for the people.
At the heart of this ensemble is a deep commitment to honoring the history and tradition of this music while fearlessly embracing individual creative expression and identity. This performance is an invitation to put away conversation, silence the distractions of social media, and be fully present with the artists, the music, and one another. Rico Jones is a New York–based saxophonist and composer dedicated to carrying the jazz tradition forward through original music rooted in ancestry, spirituality, and personal storytelling. Mentored by masters including George Coleman, Charles McPherson, Bobby Watson, and Bennie Maupin, Jones has performed internationally and at venues including Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Blue Note. His debut recording, Bloodlines, produced by renowned photographer and producer Jimmy Katz for Giant Step Arts, presents a deeply personal body of original music exploring lineage, memory, faith, and identity. The album received critical acclaim across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa, earned a four-star review from DownBeat, and was named one of the magazine’s Best Albums of 2025.
Wallace Roney Jr. is a New York trumpeter whose powerful sound reflects both deep tradition and a modern perspective. The son of legendary trumpeter Wallace Roney and acclaimed pianist Geri Allen, he has performed alongside artists including Chick Corea, Jimmy Heath, Lenny White, Buster Williams, and Ornette Coleman, establishing himself as one of today’s most exciting young trumpet voices.
David Kikoski is one of the most acclaimed pianists in jazz today. Over a career spanning four decades, he has performed and recorded with Roy Haynes, Joe Henderson, Ron Carter, Pat Martino, Randy Brecker, Bob Berg, Billy Hart, Christian McBride, and the Mingus Big Band. Renowned for his fearless improvisation and unmistakable sound, Kikoski is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation.
Billy Edwards is a New York bassist known for his warm sound, deep groove, and musical sensitivity. A respected presence on the city’s jazz scene, he has earned a reputation as a versatile collaborator whose supportive playing and strong rhythmic foundation make him a sought-after member of ensembles across the Northeast.
Mike Clark is one of the most influential drummers in modern music. Best known for his groundbreaking work with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters, his unmistakable blend of jazz sophistication and funk has inspired generations of musicians.
