Another 'No Burn' On Monday in Los Gatos: Feel Like Deja Vu?

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air Alert for Monday in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
This is the 11th consecutive day of alerts.
The alerts prohibit wood burning in the Bay Area unless wood is the sole source of heat for the residents of a home.

The air district issues the alerts when soot levels are expected to be unhealthy for residents. Wood smoke makes up 38 percent of the soot in the air during the wintertime in the Bay Area, according the air district.
Motor vehicles that are being driven make up 15 percent of the wintertime soot level and wildfires contribute just 2 percent to the overall soot level at this time of year.

The air district’s regulation says that burning wood, firelogs, pellets or other solid fuels in the fireplace, woodstove or other device that burns wood is illegal.
Residents could be ticketed for violating the regulation.
