Santa Clara County Reports 189 New Coronavirus Cases, No Deaths

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 189 additional coronavirus cases Friday.

The latest announcement brings the countywide COVID-19 case count to 5,863.

The county reported no additional coronavirus-related fatalities Friday, leaving its COVID-19 death toll to 166.

There were 112 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Friday of which 45 were being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Thursday discussed the county's plan for tackling its increase in COVID-19 cases as well as addressing the disproportionate impact of the virus on the Latinx community.

The county had less than 10 cases reported on many days in early June, but a month later was reporting 40 to 50 new cases per day.

If Sonoma County remains out of compliance on state metrics for COVID-19 spread for three or more consecutive days, it will join 23 other counties on the California Department of Public Health watchlist.

A McDonald's restaurant in Oakland's Temescal District that has been linked to 25 cases of the novel coronavirus may reopen Sunday but must show it is keeping employees and the public safe from the virus, following a court order on Thursday.

Two hundred homeless people who are staying in San Francisco hotels as part of the city's COVID-19 emergency response will have the chance to move into long-term subsidized housing, Mayor London Breed's office announced Thursday.

Under the program, the 200 people will be chosen out of a Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool and placed in homes by the end of this year.

There were 302, 949 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 6,862 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Friday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 3,173,446 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 133,940 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Friday afternoon.
